Boston Restaurant Review: Burton's Grill

One of our "go to" restaurants with a gluten free menu in Boston is Burton's Grill. They have several locations besides the Fenway Park location, including:

Hingham, MA
North Andover, MA
South Windsor, CT
Virginia Beach, VA

Without a doubt, this restaurant meets my high standards. Every gluten free meal my husband and I have eaten at Burton's has been delicious. One of their most outstanding gluten free options {...}
is their french fries: they have a dedicated fryer for their gluten free french fries! This might seem incidental, but to those of us in the gluten free world who cannot eat french fries unless the fries themselves are gluten free AND they're made in a certified gluten free fryer, this is no small potatoes (you should pardon the pun). The only caveat I will mention is that on several occasions I've had to send my fries back and ask for "just-out-of-the-fryer" crisp taters. I mean, if I'm going to eat french fries, I want them to be perfectly hot and crisp. The few times I sent them back, Burton's went the distance for me.

They also have gluten free Fish & Chips. I've never ordered this - I don't usually allow myself to indulge in two fried items at one meal. But my husband almost always orders it and he LOVES it.

While they have a few vegetarian options, I would personally like to see them increase their gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian options. There are many people like me who, in addition to being gluten free, also don't eat dairy or meat. With a creative chef, it wouldn't be difficult to come up with a couple of gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian options.

Other than that, the food is delicious, the gluten free menu boasts a pretty extensive list of options (and they serve Redbridge gluten free beer - another plus!), and the waitstaff definitely aims to please. This restaurant gets a 9 out of 10 thumbs up.

RESTAURANT REVIEWS

Eating gluten free while on the road can be very challenging, but it is definitely manageable. There are so many restaurants that have gluten free menus, with more showing up every day. And there are many restaurants that, while they don't have gluten free menus, are still able to accomodate gluten free needs.

This list (by state and/or chain) will be a continuing list of {...}
links to my blogposts (or other blogs that post about gluten free dining experiences) that feature reviews of restaurants that either have gluten free menus or are simply gluten free friendly even if they don't have a gluten free menu.

If you have a suggestion for a restaurant that I should check out, please email me at birdwoman5151 AT gmail DOT com.

ABOUT

I've been blogging about my gluten free cooking and lifestyle since I was diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago (late 2005). As soon as I found out I had Celiac Disease, I adopted a new way of living. I immediately began to feel better and haven't looked back, not even once. My hair has grown back, my moods have stopped swinging from one end of the pendulum {...}
to the other, I rarely get colds, I never have stomach aches, and I'm just generally a much happier person.

My husband and I work fulltime as musicians in the field of children's music. We perform concerts and present teacher workshops primarily throughout the United States, though also occasionally in Canada and Europe. If you want to visit our blog about our work, please go here.

Since being diagnosed, traveling became a challenge. But the whole landscape, even in the last 3 1/2 years since my diagnosis, has changed so dramatically that I really have nothing to complain about. We travel for the most part to urban areas. I can almost always find a restaurant that has a gluten free menu or a supermarket that carries gluten free foods.

The goal of this new blog (please visit my original blog at www.Iamglutenfree.blogspot.com) is to help people find restaurants that have gluten free menus. Or to find restaurants that, even if they don't have gluten free menus, are gluten free friendly.

I also hope to make suggestions for gluten free tips while traveling.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to contact me at birdwoman5151 AT gmail DOT com.
